Shoppingmum’s Office Life

Office life in a foreign land

A night at the hospital

I spent a night with my kid at the hospital since he was admitted due to influenza A. It’s very tiring for me, and even if I have a lot of work to do, all shall be delayed as my kid comes first in my priority list. I could have done some with if there is a rack mount computer in the room. Even if I have my laptop in the car, I don’t have wireless connection in the room.

So, it’s a good night nursing a sick kid without doing any work. But then, it’s a worrying and tedious night for us too. He’s back at home now, and I shall take care of him at home. I might be working from home too. Let’s see how.

Spend Less

I’m so going to control my spending next month. No more impulsive shopping! I need to do a better planning with my money, especially if I want to buy gold. Maye it’s not only about gold, it’s about how I have to spend. I’ve been spending a lot this August, so I better stop next month or so until I feel like I can spend again.

Furthermore, I should put my effort in making money and building sales leads but not just spending. With my increasing work load, maybe I don’t have much time to shop next week. But after that, I better try my best to be very busy so that I have no time to visit the malls!

Translation

After 2 years in Thailand, I would say that my Thai language has improved, but it’s not sufficient enough to have a decent conversation with the locals, without the use of a dictionary, or a translator. I have myself to blame on not putting enough effort in learning the language, so I’m picking up the language rather too slow. My kids and hubby can speak way much better than me, and they can read some too. At least my kids can recognize the consonants, and they will be picking up Thai phrases and words in a couple of years.

That’s why I’m the only one who needs translation services here, especially since I can’t read any of the documents related to my work. It’s quite troublesome relying on someone else to do the translation for me every time. So, it’s best to just get an online software or service to help me out.

If you are looking for translation services too, check out the link. I haven’t use it yet, but there is no harm checking it out. Furthermore, who knows if it might be useful for expats like me?

For the sake of staying in Thailand, I really need to learn the language. So, will I have the determination and long term commitment in learning the language? Let’s see how it goes!

Perfect Gift

I hate thinking about buying gifts, so I hardly get any pressie for anyone, except my kids. They will tell me what they want and it’s easier to fulfill their “dreams”. As for my friends, not all is willing to tell you what they expect to have on birthdays or special events. Mostly are too shy or polite to speak their minds.

So, maybe I will just get them some buy.com coupons or cash vouchers. They can just purchase anything they want at the selected stores and I won’t risk getting the wrong gifts.

I hope that hubby can get me some cash vouchers too. LOL!

Improving

I can finally see some improvement in my biz, especially for the projected sales in next month. I hope that it will continue to be doing well because I’m putting a lot of effort into it, so that I can afford to buy gold from United States Gold Bureau! LOL!

Robotic engineering is very new in Thailand, but it has some prospect. I’m still new in this field, but I don’t mind learning. I just need more time to read up more, and I’m glad that these people I’m working with are very keen to teach. :)

Oh well, please don’t just teach me. Buy from me!

Busy Workaholic

A lot of people mistaken that I have a fairly easy life. Frankly, I have my stress and worries too. It’s not easy running a biz on your own, especially since hubby is very busy with his work as well. Every month, I need to work on the sales target, control the expenses, figuring out how to pay the suppliers, collecting payments from customers, learning more about new products and applications and etc. My list goes on, and there has never been a day when I can go home with a peaceful mind, until I see my kids.

After that, it’s all about going back to the role of becoming a mother. It’s only after I’m done with the cooking and such, then I will turn on my laptop and get back to working from home. Gosh, I really sound like a workaholic. LOL! That’s why I don’t have much time for shopping nor checking out the piling brochures of nice houses with fancy Kwikset anymore.

But then, I know that my effort will bear fruit one day.

Selecting Life Insurance

Both hubby and I have been paying for our life insurance policies for years, and no matter what have happened, I don’t think we will cancel our policies. We would like to secure our kids’ future, if anything should happen to us. They might not be millionaires from the compensation though, but at least I would know that they can lead on their lives without much financial constrains for a couple of years, or probably until their adulthood.

Of course, I don’t wish to have anything bad happen to us! But you can deny how important a life insurance is once you have started having a family. It’s not only about paying for a coverage anymore, it’s about securing your kids’ lives, if things are not progressing as expected.

Apple Fan

Not only that I want to have iPhone 4, I wish to get 2 iPads and a Macbook Pro as well. Let’s just say that if I have the money to buy gold coins now, I might delay this idea and use the money to get the Apple gadgets first. :P

Too bad hubby doesn’t agree on buying iPads for the kids, even if his friend can get for us from US. It’s really affordable, but he knows that the kids will get addicted in playing the apps. :P

Oh well, we might as well wait for the product to be launched here and see if we still want to get one. I know that my kids would love to get their own iPads, it’s so cool to own one!

Long Weekend

It’s the long weekend in Thailand but I’m still working today, and also on Tuesday. Nonetheless, I might call it a day after this evening and enjoy 3 days of busy life as a mother. I wish that I can rest but it’s impossible.

The shopping malls should be pretty crowded this weekend, so I don’t think hubby is keen for shopping. I can’t afford to get any loose diamonds or LV this month either, so no shopping for the pathetic shoppingmum la.

Getting a new phone

My initial plan was to wait for iPhone 4 to be launched in Thailand, but I might have to settle with iPhone 3Gs in the mean time. My phone dropped again, and the cover broke! Sigh…

There is a electronic fair at Future Park end of next month, and there should be a few promotions on the latest Nokia, Samsung, iPhone and etc, but I don’t think I can wait that long. By then, I might as well wait for a few more weeks for iPhone 4 right?

Anyway, even if iPhone 4 has antenna problem, but I still love its features. Once it’s launched, I shall dump my iPhone 3GS to hubby or my kids. LOL!
