Shoppingmum’s Office Life

Office life in a foreign land

Blogging Freak

Oh ya, I have been blogging like a freak all day long. We only go to the office half a day this week, so I have more time for blogging. Hubby is happily practicing his swings at golf range and my kids are still at school. What a lovely afternoon to be spent all by myself, with the company of my old laptop.

Gee…I really feel like my one year old XSP is old aged laptop now as hubby, SIL and BIL has recently bought their new laptops!!! All of them did so in 2 weeks!!! Why? Trying to press me to get a new one too? LOL!

But I hardly use my laptop as much as I did, so should I waste money getting one? It’s still working well… :P

Still Lost at Facebook

I’m a facebook idiot and even if I signed up as soon as I heard about it, I hardly check out what is Facebook all about and why is everyone so addicted to it. I have some friends at Facebook, but I don’t do much then adding them and reading their messages. Gosh, I’m so outdated!

Maybe I should sneak out some time at the office and play around with Facebook. I felt like I’m a dino now. :P

Doctorate Degree

One of my friends is going to further study in UK some time from now, and she will bring along her children. I admired her determination to get a doctorate, even if she is so busy with her career and family life now. It’s not easy for her to study and taking care of her children all by herself in a foreign land, if her husband is not going along.

I wonder why she doesn’t want to study through online university. I think there are a lot of options available now, but maybe it’s still not so common for doctorate degree. Anyway, I’m wishing her all the best, even if she’s not leaving so soon!

Sabai Sabai Ka?

Sabai sabai is such as nice word in Thai. It means relax. But we will still monitor the news about Thai political tension closely, even if our normal lives are not affected.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has advised Malaysians in Bangkok to be vigilant to situations around them and continuously monitor developments.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim said Malaysians in the Thai capital should also avoid rally grounds as “the situation may change instantly and without warning.”

He said in a statement that Malaysia was concerned with the well-being and safety of its citizens following the declaration of the state of emergency in Bangkok on Tuesday and that the Foreign Ministry was in constant contact with Malaysians there and would continue to monitor the situation.

I was reading The Star Online just now and I saw this news. Hopefully, things will get better days after and my friends will still come over to Bangkok. Of course, I’m not sure if it’s a good time to visit Bangkok, but I will leave them to decide for themselves.

Word Count

I like my blogs which are hosted with Wordpress. You can simply upload some practical plugins and publishing posts with Wordpress is a bliss. I have some blogs with Blogger, but one thing I don’t like about it is I can’t do word count. Maybe I have no idea how to do so in blogspot, so if you do, please let me know!

If I need to know the word count, I would to copy and paste the text at Wordpress and use the plugin to count the total number of words for me. It’s not too hard to be done, but I wonder if there is a short cut? I really hope that I can just do word count in blogspot!

Any clue?

No Bloodshed Please

The moment I logged on to internet yesterday, my friends had started beeping me through MSN asking about the condition in Bangkok. I know about the demonstration but I didn’t know things got bad on Tuesday morning until I read the news. If I’m staying around the city, I would be flying back home for safely reason by now, but over at my area, our lives are not affected.

We have just moved in to our new home, and it’s not easy to move away right now. We have a new business to be taken care of and my kids have started going to school. It’s not easy to start all over again when we have only started one a few months ago! Not to mention, moving is tough, unless I get some reputable Boston Movers to do the job for me!

Frankly, by announcing that Bangkok is in the state of emergency won’t do the country any good. Tourism and economy will surely be affected, and its people will suffer at some point of the time. I’m not sure what should the current government do about this, but I hope that the politicians can see the real impact on its people. Most importantly, let there be no bloodshed please.

Website Not Ready

I’m still waiting for our company website to be ready, but it might take a little longer than expected. I can’t do the coding by myself, and thus I hired a webmaster to do it for me. Furthermore, I simple don’t have to time to linger with HTML despite on how much I would like to learn. Hopefully, the webmaster can get the website ready on time as hubby is losing his patience!

Too bad I can’t afford to get the help from any New York IT Consulting companies, such as iCorp. If you are looking for an IT company in New York, check out the link provided. Some of the services offered by are network integration, web solutions, and business application. If you are interested, just get their free quotes or call the toll free number available at their homepage.

My company is fairly new, so IT is not needed for the time being. Our operations are very simple so it’s not hard to handle them all. But if our company is expanding one day, I sure hope that we can have an IT department. LOL! However, I’m not sure if we can achieve that as Bangkok is having a lot of political tension lately. That will surely affect its economy growth if the situation gets worse.

Hired Someone

Our first sales executive has started working for days, and so far so good. We are satisfied with him showing the initiative to learn about our products since he doesn’t have experience in technical industries. He is good at selling medical supplies previously, so if he is willing to learn about our new products, and with his years of experience in sales, I think he will be able to hit our sales target.

Of course, things might be easier for him if we are selling medical supplies. Who knows? We might venture into this field one day. LOL! But then again, I’m not sure if he will still be working with us. I better don’t think too far or too much but concentrating on our newly set up biz.

Off on Saturdays?

We haven’t officially set up our company rules yet, but I really don’t want to come into the office on Saturdays. I prefer to have 2 rest days in a week when I can have a weekend away lying on the pool floats of some famous beach resorts in Thailand! But BIL’s office works on Saturdays, so we are still think if we should standardize our operation.

Frankly, I don’t think we are as productive as we normally are on Saturdays. I came in late this morning and with my kids around, I hardly do anything much. We may as well just stay at home or go shopping. Yoohoo!

I hope that hubby will agree on not coming in on Saturdays too!

PPP Blogs Cleaning Up

I only found out today that PayPerPost is cleaning out the blogs in their system. I have a few blogs with PPP, but I don’t get a lot of offers for the past few months. Since we can’t delete the blogs by ourselves, I don’t mind some of them being deleted from the system anyway.

But for those who are still working well with paid posts, I guess they will have to keep up the quality with their blogs to meet the requirements by PPP. We will only know the screening results after 30 days, so let’s see which blogs stay and which are not. I guess I will be very anxious and losing weight without diet pills if the screening is done one year ago when I was in making money frenzy.

However, I don’t think it will affect me much, unless I’m desperate of making money now.
